Heritage Christian School
Pre-school to Grade 12

Heritage Christian School is a pre-School to Grade 12 facility located in Battleford, Saskatchewan. HCS is an Associated School with the Battleford's School Division and as such, the school receives funding for teachers' salaries. The balance of the school's expenses including books, equipment, travel maintenance, and repair is covered by tuition fees and donations. HCS is classed as an Independent School under the independent School ACT wtih Sask.Education.
The spiritual component of the school is an integral part of all classes and activities. Bible Stories are read, scriptures referred to, and Christian principles practiced every day in class. Each day begins with a half hour of devotion. Through these practices, it is hoped students will develop a personal relationship with Jesus. The curriculum is based on provincial curriculum guides with modifications to incorporate Christian beliefs and philosophy. This curriculum is approved by Sask.Education, supervised by them, and the general operation of the school falls under their guidelines. Because it is an accredited school, students cover course material that parallels that covered by students in other schools. Subjects taught are much the same as those taught at other schools. Students use facilities outside of the school for education purposes. Students ski at Table Mountain four times a year; participate in a 10 week swimming session at the City Kinsmen Swimming Pool; curl at nearby Curling Rink and visit the public library.
Heritiage Christian School was established in 1980 as an interdenomination school. It is operated by representatives elected from a membership who share a common goal of providing Christian alternative in education. The school strives to provide a safe, caring environment for students to study a curriculum that is Christian in world view with teachers and peers who will provide quality role modelling and influence. This school fosters a family atmosphere where students interact and watch out for one another. All take recess together and eat lunch together. Children are taught to be respectful and are encouraged to care for one another.
Because parents are considered the primary educators of their children, the school is viewed as an extension of the home with respect to that educating. Thus parents are encouraged and expected to be active and involved partners in their children's education. Parents' contributions to the education of their children consists of financial (monthly tuition and donations) assistance, home support, and volunteering at the school. The school does not exist to serve families. It IS families.
